The Montreal Sports Council is a nonprofit organization whose vision is to be the leader of Montreal’s sports community.
The Montreal Sports Council provides inspiring leadership by promoting and advocating for the interests of the city’s sports community. Through its actions, it contributes to an active and dynamic lifestyle for the region’s residents, while helping to establish the Island of Montreal as a renowned sports hub. Guided by the values of respect, fairness, and integrity, the Council is committed to fostering the development, accessibility, and promotion of sports. Through various initiatives, it mobilizes and supports stakeholders in the sports community, supports elite athletes, and facilitates the hosting of sporting events that enrich the city’s vitality.
Focus Area - Support for Elite Athletes
Through Excellence sportive île de Montréal (ESIM), the Montreal Sports Council serves as a Regional Multisport Training Center (CREM) to provide services to athletes, coaches, staff, and officials:
- Services for the 609 athletes identified as the next generation (up-and-comers, elite)
- ESIM Training Room
- Alliance of Quebec Regional Multisport Training Centers (ACREMQ)
- Support Program for Regional Multisport Training Centers (PSCREM)
- Program to Support the Development of Coaches and Their Environment (PSDEE)
Priority Area - Support for Regional Development
To support the development of regional sports, the Montreal Sports Council works with sports associations, clubs, and federations:
- Project to pool services in collaboration with three regional sports associations
- Regional Sports Development Program
Focus Area - Support for Sporting Events
- The Montreal Sports Council oversees the Montreal Sports Events Partners Group (GPESM)
- A database of 1,800 volunteers dedicated to sporting events
Our History
The Montreal Sports Council, officially launched on December 3, 2020, at the Montreal Sports Summit, is dedicated to representing and supporting the development of sports on the Island of Montreal, from introductory levels through to elite competition. It works with local associations, clubs, federations, and schools.
Since 2021, the Île de Montréal Sports Excellence Program (ESIM) has been an integral part of the Montreal Sports Council and continues to support elite athletes and training groups.
