A little history…

After several years of behind-the-scenes work, Montreal’s sports community has established a flagship organization to represent sports across the island of Montreal: the Montreal Sports Council.

Officially launched on December 3, 2020, during the 2020 Montreal Sports Summit, this new regional sports organization will support organizations driving sports development—from introductory programs to elite competition—across the entire island of Montreal. In particular, it will serve Montreal-based associations, clubs, multisport organizations, sports federations, and sports programs in schools, colleges, and universities. Starting January 1, it will also incorporate the high-performance sports programs and services offered by Excellence sportive de l’île de Montréal (ESIM).

ESIM will therefore become a program within the Montreal Sports Council in early 2021. The mandate of the Regional Multisport Training Center (CREM) remains unchanged, and the ESIM program will continue to serve identified athletes in the region as well as high-performance training groups.

Since September 2022, ESIM has been known as Excellence sportive de Montréal.
