On May 27, 2025, as part of the Montreal Sports Summit, the Montreal Sports Council
launched the Montreal Protocol for Kindness in Sport. Following the announcement of the Protocol, the Montreal Sports Council expressed a desire to issue a call for projects to support an initiative by a member of the Montreal sports community whose objective is the promotion and advancement of kindness in the sports world and which aligns with the values and commitments of the Montreal Protocol for kindness in sport.
The Montreal Sports Council aims to award, on an annual basis, two grants of up to $5,000 to support any initiative that promotes and promoting the principles of kindness in sport advanced by the Montreal Protocol. One of these grants will be reserved for an initiative to be carried out in the Lac-Saint-Louis region, and a second grant for the rest of the Island of Montreal.
Eligibility Criteria
- Individuals or Montreal-based sports organizations may apply for a grant.
- For an individual application: The applicant must reside on the island of Montreal.
- For an organization: The organization must be based in the City of Montreal and serve a regional or local community.
- The individual or organization must be a signatory to the Montreal Protocol on Kindness in Sport: https://www.paramourdusport.ca/protocole
- The initiative must be implemented no later than 12 months after the grant is awarded.
Evaluation Criteria and Weighting
- Impact on the advancement of sportsmanship (25%)
- Alignment with the values and commitments of the Montreal Protocol on Well-being in Sport (20%)
- Innovative aspect of the initiative (15%)
- Scope of the initiative (20%)
- Feasibility of the initiative (20%)
Project Timeline
May and June 2026: Call for proposals phase. Submission deadline: August 31, 2026.
July and August 2026: Project review phase and preparation of a recommendation for the CSM’s September board meeting.
September 2026: Official selection of the two initiatives by the Board of Directors.
October 2026 to June 2027: Project implementation period.
November 2026 (Gala Podium Montréal 2026): Public presentation of the two grant projects during the Gala.
