SHARING PROJECT

SERVICES

The service-sharing project is a pilot initiative launched in 2024 with the support of the City of Montreal to address common challenges faced by sports associations, such as administrative overload and a lack of professional resources. It involves sharing a professional resource among several associations to support them in their administrative, logistical, and operational tasks.  The goal is to improve their efficiency, standardize practices, and allow them to focus more on their sports mission.

Three regional organizations involved:

BACKGROUND AND FINDINGS

Regional associations face common challenges:

  • Heavy administrative burden
  • Lack of professional resources
  • A need for coordination, organization, and efficiency
  • Professionalization of the sports sector

Collective response: Pool certain functions in order to provide regional associations with shared professional support.

ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT

  • Support for the adoption of sound governance within associations
  • Systematic archiving of the association’s documents in a shared folder
  • Call for Grant Proposals
  • Assistance with the preparation of activity and accountability reports

LOGISTICAL / OPERATIONAL SUPPORT

  • Help develop the annual calendar of activities (administrative, athletic, training, and recognition events).
  • Help organize the association’s activities: competitions, events, and training sessions (Montréal Games, Regional Finals, Québec Games, Méritas Gala).

CONCRETE EXAMPLES OF POSITIVE IMPACTS

Montreal-Concordia Gymnastics:

  • Launch of the Meritas Gala

Bourassa-Montréal Swimming:

  • Improvements to the association’s administrative structure

Skating in Montreal:

  • Support for organizing committees of competitions and events
  • Effective coordination of the summer camp

BENEFITS FOR ORGANIZATIONS

  • Access to shared professional expertise
  • Reducing the administrative burden
  • Standardization of practices and improved communication
  • Promoting Teamwork in Montreal's Sports Community

Overall result: More time for athletic training, less administrative and logistical work.

OUTLOOK AND CALL FOR COLLABORATION

  • The pilot project demonstrates the model's effectiveness in promoting professionalization within regional sports associations.
  • This model can be adapted to meet the specific needs of each organization.

By pooling our resources, each regional association can benefit from professional support that enhances its administrative, logistical, and operational efficiency.
