SPORTS MURAL PROJECT

CALL FOR APPLICATIONS | Artists

The 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal served as a catalyst for the development of sports infrastructure in Montreal and Quebec. The 1976 Olympics remain, to this day, the largest multi-sport event ever held in Canada. In the wake of the 1976 Olympics, sports federations consolidated their position and, over the years, developed a comprehensive support structure for the development of recreational, competitive, and elite sports that are deeply rooted in our city. Montreal remains a hub for the development of high-performance athletes, some of whom have stood on the top steps of the podium at world championships and the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

To celebrate this significant anniversary, the Montreal Sports Council is launching a call for projects for the production of three murals to celebrate the Olympic legacy and the development of sport in Montreal over the past 50 years. Several locations have been identified (two outdoor and one indoor) in different neighborhoods of Montreal.

Each artist is invited to submit a proposal for a single canvas. Each mural has a different theme and specific production context.

Applications will be judged based on the quality and relevance of the proposals, in relation to the artist's artistic approach, as well as their originality. The work will be produced solely on the surface identified and framed in the visuals.

The artist selected for each work must have submitted a proposal that fits the desired theme and must be available during the predetermined period for the production of the mural.

Eligibility of candidates:

  • Having the right to work in Canada
  • Have a minimum of 2 years of experience in mural production
  • Have a residential address within the City of Montreal

A fee will be paid to the artist according to the amounts listed below.

The application must include (in a single PDF document containing all the required documents):

  • Project reference for which you are applying (on the cover page)
  • Summary outline and detailed description of the proposed project;
  • Artist's portfolio (visual documentation with descriptions of previous projects);
  • Brief description of the artist's artistic approach;
  • Updated resume;
  • List of all relevant certifications required to perform the job (operating the lifting platform, etc.)

The deadline for receiving applications is April 8 at 6 p.m.

For more information or to submit your application, please send an email to murale@conseilsportmontreal.ca. When submitting your application, please include the name of the location—one of the four projects for which you are applying—in the subject line of the email (e.g., “Olympic Stadium mural”), and be sure to attach your PDF application.
