At today’s M.E.S. meeting, coaches and sports science professionals continued their discussion on training planning.
This session provided an opportunity to revisit the main topics discussed during previous meetings:
• Analysis of the previous training cycle;
• Quantification of training load;
• Assessment of the percentage of the training plan completed;
• Setting and adjusting goals;
• Selection of relevant and valid assessment tests;
• The role of mental preparation during the transition period.
The discussions also helped identify several topics that will be explored in greater depth at upcoming M.E.S. meetings, including:
• structuring microcycles;
• long-term planning, particularly in relation to talent identification and development;
• planning mental preparation and integrating it into the training plan;
• quantifying training volume and intensity;
• the use of artificial intelligence in high-performance sports;
• different approaches to intensity distribution, including polarized training and zone training;
• recovery strategies tailored to the demands of power and endurance sports;
• nutritional challenges associated with training and competition under extreme environmental conditions;
• nutritional periodization in endurance and sprint sports.
Through these meetings, the goal of the M.E.S. remains to create a practical forum for exchange between coaches and sports science specialists.
The needs and challenges encountered in the field serve as a starting point for fostering better integration of various areas of expertise—physical conditioning, physiology, mental preparation, nutrition, recovery, and other disciplines—to support athletes’ planning and performance.
