Developed by Stéphanie Poirier, the advisor for coach development and the coaching environment, in collaboration with Montréal Physiquement Active, this program is designed for coaches and sports professionals who wish to enhance their coaching skills.
“It’s a social learning activity. It’s not like a university course. It takes more the form of discussions, workshops, and exchanges,” says Stéphanie Poirier, advisor for coach development and their professional environment.
The Montreal Coaches’ Meeting is intended for coaches, volunteers, staff members, and sports professionals who work with athletes aged 6 to 17. They must be affiliated with a regional sports association and its member sports clubs, a Sport-études program, an after-school team, or be involved with the Quebec Student Sports Network (RSEQ) in the Montreal area.
With the support of experts, the Montreal Sports Council is planning two or three sessions aimed at exploring topics or themes that are not related to the technical and tactical aspects of sports. Stéphanie Poirier hopes that areas such as communication, intervention, and the environment will be addressed.
“We’re here to help them develop their coaching skills in all areas beyond sports, based on the needs they identify themselves in their practice,” says advisor Stéphanie Poirier.
Diversity is a priority. Since other programs—such as the Coaches’ LAB, the Coaches’ Club, and individual coaching support—do not share the same objectives, the Coaches’ Gathering was created to diversify the programs already available.
