The President of the Conseil du sport de Montréal, Danièle Sauvageau, received the title of Officer of the Order of Montreal on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. Fully involved in a wide range of organizations and in the metropolis, our president has been awarded the most prestigious title a Montrealer can receive.

Danièle Sauvageau, a Montreal sports pioneer.

A great sports pioneer, Danièle Sauvageau has been touring arenas and sports facilities for over forty years. In fact, it was winning Canada's first Olympic gold medal in women's field hockey in 2002 that propelled her to become, for many, the coach's coach. As a coach, she has won the title of Coach of the Year three times in Quebec and three more times in Canada.

In her various roles as head coach, general manager, coaching consultant and analyst, Danièle Sauvageau took part in a total of six Olympic Games. She was also the only woman on the Canadian Sport Review Panel, which led to the creation of Own the Podium.

Her current positions include General Manager of the Université de Montréal Carabins women's field hockey program and President and CEO of the 21.02 high-performance field hockey center in Montreal. Involved on the Board of Directors of Excellence sportive de l'île de Montréal since its inception in 2011, she is now President of the Board of Directors of the Conseil du sport de Montréal since its creation.

His volunteer involvement with the Conseil du sport is aimed at ensuring that Montreal is recognized locally and internationally as a leading sports metropolis, for the benefit of all Montrealers, especially young people.

Among the plethora of honours this Université de Montréal social work and human resources graduate has received over the past 25 years are the Order of Canada, the Meritorious Service Cross and the Canadian Olympic Hall of Fame on two occasions. Locally, she has just been named "Grande Verdunoise" by the borough of Verdun.

The Order of Montreal, an honorary award.

Every May 17, seventeen Montrealers are honoured at the official Order of Montreal ceremony. This prestigious title is the City of Montreal's highest honor.

Montrealers by heart or by values, your commitments, your actions, your projects and your involvement for the City of Montreal can be rewarded. This distinction is entirely Montreal-based, and pays tribute to people of all backgrounds and origins who, through their achievements, talents and personalities, make Montreal a stronger and prouder city.

Nominations are invited between September and December. Recipients are distinguished by one or more merits, whatever their sector of activity. Three distinctions are awarded to these multi-talented individuals: Commander, Officer and Knight.

The Conseil du sport congratulates its president, Danièle Sauvageau, on this new award. A well-deserved medal in view of Danièle's many commitments. She is the second President of ESIM, now the Conseil du sport de Montréal, to receive the Order of Montreal, after Richard W. Pound.
