The “Du Sport en Plus” program continues, with a series of workshops and seminars taking place. Led by Dany Trudel, a coach specializing in executive development and high performance, some twenty young athletes from the ARS Bourassa club—all part of the sports-study program—are participating in a workshop titled “Embrace Your Leadership.”
Dany Trudel has agreed to join the Sports Council’s panel of speakers to help athletes develop new skills from a young age, focusing on topics that are rarely discussed.
This was the second conference held as part of the initiative “Supporting young athletes in East Montreal and providing them with training and workshop opportunities.”
It was at the Marie-Victorin Sports Center that the Sports Council and the young athletes met with Dany Trudel, for whom sports are a catalyst for growth. Today, she shares her passion and experience to help a wider community of young athletes reach their full potential, develop their skills, and foster leadership.
“I want to help young people continue on their path as athletes and give them as many tools as possible. I enjoy discussing ideas, reflecting on things, and sharing knowledge. It’s great to see that they’re eager to put my advice into practice,” she tells us.
Dany Trudel presented the topic of leadership to the young athletes in two parts.
The first, more theoretical part of the session explained the different types of leadership (participative, laissez-faire, democratic, and authoritarian) and presented examples of professional players who demonstrate leadership in various ways. Dany Trudel also asked the young athletes to identify leaders in their own circles and describe their strengths and the methods they use to lead a group.
A second, more hands-on segment took them out onto the field to introduce the athletes to leadership. Divided into three teams, the players were able to test their leadership skills through two fun games. Dany Trudel then asked them to reflect on their actions during the games to gain a better understanding of leadership.
The group of about twenty young soccer players left with a better understanding of what a leader is, their role, and their actions. They also realized that anyone can be a leader without necessarily being the captain, since, as mentioned earlier, there are many different types of leadership. Indeed, leadership is something that can be learned and developed through practice! Discipline, behavior, and the way one interacts with others are all part of leadership.
